Woodland and Wildlife

Worton Park provides a unique, richly diverse range of habitat for both flora and fauna. Ancient water meadows and organic arable land link to lakes, reed beds and a conservation area. A major section of Worton has been selected as a County Wildlife Site under the guidance of BBOWT (The Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust). Within the conservation area approximately 140 bird species are noted each year, whilst across the site many rare and interesting species of wild plants can be found.

At Thrupp, nestling between the Oxford canal and the Cherwell river, a considerable area of woodland has been created, interspersed with permitted walks. It is unusual to find such an area of managed but relatively wild land close to a local population. The remainder of the farm land has been split between low input meadowland and arable land in organic conversion.
